Obituary

Vera Morris Lance, 88, born to Maggie Aleen Gulsby Morris and James Morris, Oct. 9, 1921, died Friday, July 2, 2010, at Tranquility Hospice care in Marietta. She is survived by John Andrew Lance Jr., her devoted husband of 65 years; her daughter, Suzanne L. Cheek and husband, Jay Cheek; her daughter Cynthia L. Cutler; and her son John Andrew Lance III and wife Debra Lance; 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A child of the Depression, Vera described herself as a "poor country girl" whom God brought "from nothing to really something." Vera was a long-time member of Fairburn First Baptist Church in Fairburn, Georgia, and most recently attended Midway Macedonia Baptist Church in Villa Rica, Georgia. A devoted Christian, Vera spent many years serving through local chapters of the Southern Baptist Women's Missionary Union, Builders for Christ, and the PTA. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and singing. She lived a life devoted to Jesus her Savior and to her family. Even in her final days she was singing hymns of joy, eager to finally "find Jesus." The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Monday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at Almon Funeral Home & Chapel in Carrollton, GA at 2:00 p.m. with graveside services immediately following at Holly Hills Memorial Gardens, Fairburn, GA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Vera's memory to Inside Ministry, P.O. Box 2191, Carrollton, GA 30112. Messages of condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.almonfuneralhome.com. Almon Funeral Home of Carrollton has charge of arrangements.
