Obituary

Thyra Martin Alexander went home to be with The Lord on April 6, 2015 after a brief battle with pneumonia. She died peacefully with family members at her side. Thyra was married to Jack Alexander on January 1, 1942. Their first child, Jacquelyn, was born later in the year. They lived in Carrollton with Thyra's parents when Jack joined the Navy and was deployed during WW II. After the war they returned to the Atlanta area and settled in East Point where 2 more children were born. Jacquelyn, Dale and Barbara kept Thyra very busy along with making a home for her and Jack. Thyra was always about taking care of her family. She totally devoted herself to being the best wife and mother she could be and always was willing to put others before herself. She never changed. Jack and Thyra moved back to Carrollton after retirement and they both spent many years enjoying each other, church friends, and of course the kids, grand kids, and great grand kids. Thyra was active for many years at Concord United Methodist Church and enjoyed being a key member of The Rebecca Martin Club. She also enjoyed quilting with her sister and traveling with Jack. Thyra and Jack were married for 59 1/2 years when Jack passed away. Thyra continued to love and serve others at Autumn Square until failing health and a broken hip caused her to be in a wheel chair for the last several years. She was moved to Carrollton Manor but she never stopped caring for and about other people especially children. Thyra was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. LE Martin, her husband Jack, her daughter Jacquelyn Crumpton Isley, and 8 siblings. She leaves behind 2 children, Dale and Cindy Alexander, Barbara and Stuart Irvine, 5 grand children, Mike and Angela Leissa, Greg and Connie Crumpton, Heather and Aaron Biseda, Heath and Serena Alexander, Mark and Emily King, 8 great grand children, Michael Leissa, Emily Leissa, Jacquelyn George, Kayley Biseda, Keelan Biseda, Morgan King, Mark King Jr., and Hadley Jay Alexander. The family expresses great appreciation to the staff of Carrollton Manor for the over the top love and care given to Thyra over her last few years. They truly helped make her life comfortable and enjoyable. The family will receive friends and family on Sunday April 12 from noon until 2 PM with the funeral service immediately following at Almon Funeral Home in Carrollton, Ga. Dr. Robert Brown will be officiating. Interment will be at Carroll Memory Gardens. Messages of condolences may be expressed to family online at www.almonfuneralhome.com.
