Thelma Arlene
Martin
Jan 18, 1947 — Jul 12, 2026
Mrs. Thelma Arlene Martin, age 79, of Fairplay, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 12, 2026.
Born on January 18, 1947, in St. Petersburg, Florida, Mrs. Martin was the daughter of the late William Haywood Hasson and Willow Dean Chancey Hasson.
Arlene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose greatest joy in life was caring for those she loved. Affectionately known by many as "Mother Martin" or "Nanny," she touched countless lives with her kindness, generosity, and nurturing spirit. As a dedicated homemaker, she faithfully cared for her husband and children, creating a home that was always filled with warmth, love, and the comforting aroma of a pot of homemade soup or chili simmering on the stove during the fall and winter months.
She had a deep love for animals and enjoyed raising horses as well as many different breeds of dogs. An excellent cook and an avid reader, Arlene found joy in life's simple pleasures. She especially loved flowers and delighted in the beautiful gardens her husband lovingly planted for her throughout the years. Her gentle spirit, welcoming heart, and unwavering love for family and friends will be treasured and remembered always.
She is survived by her daughter, Christy Martin; her son and daughter-in-law, Jamie and Carla Martin; her grandchildren, Kristen Morris, Kohl Martin, and Abby Martin; her great-grandchildren, Aiden Morris and Grayson Morris; numerous nieces and nephews; and the many dear friends she made at Carrollton Manor, who became like family to her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Michael F. Martin; her brother, Bill Hasson; and her sister, Debra Hasson.
Mrs. Martin's legacy of love, compassion, hospitality, and devotion to her family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
