Scarlet G. Lanier (Grizzard) departed this life on January 25, 2024, at the age of 82. A resident of Carrollton, Georgia, she was born to Luther C. and Florene Reeves Grizzard on April 14, 1941. Scarlet's life was a rich tapestry woven with devotion to her family, her career, and her faith.

A 1956 graduate of Carrollton High School, Scarlet's foundation in education began at Rock Ridge Primary School. She was first runner up in the Rome division of the Mrs. Georgia Pageant in the early 60's. She worked at Carrollton Federal Savings and Loan and later shared her talents as co-owner of Le Serve Realty.

Her steadfast faith was nurtured at Oak Grove Baptist Church of Carrollton, where she was a dedicated member. She served the church by offering her time on the counting committee and her talents on the decorating committee. Her love for the Lord shone brightly through her actions to others and her compassionate spirit. Scarlet was the picture of southern hospitality with a particular interest for gardening that allowed her to cultivate beauty as she did in all aspects of her life. Along with gardening, she enjoyed floral arranging, traveling around the world for antiquing, and home decorating. Scarlet was featured in Pilot Club Tour of Homes in 2012 to showcase her love of interior decorating. Of particular note and perhaps the project for which she was most fond of was her research and restoration work for the John S. Jackson Plantation in Hancock County. The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation gave special recognition to the quality of this restoration. She found great joy in painting portraits and landscapes of her family and memories. Scarlet was passionate about serving alongside the community in which she lived, offering her time to the Dekalb Historical Society and the Georgia Student Finance Commission Board which awarded HOPE scholarships to students. Each hobby she possessed was a reflection of her appreciation for life's finer details.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, LeAnne Buchanan (Randy) of Carrollton, sons Vic Laster (Jamie) of Dahlonega and Powell Laster (Mary) of Colorado, her eleven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. Scarlet was proceeded in death by her parents, her sister, June (Mama June) Maxwell (Billy), and her brother, Richard Grizzard Sr (Jan). Being family oriented was an important part of Scarlet's life, and the love she gave to each of her family members will be remembered and carried on throughout each of their lives.

Scarlet's family wishes to extend their gratitude to Almon Funeral Home for their compassionate care. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, January 31 at 2:00 from the chapel at Almon Funeral Home with visitation prior to the service from 11:30 till 1:30 at Almon Funeral Home. Her legacy of love, laughter, and wisdom will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
