Obituary

Sandra (Sandee) Teal Thornburg, adored wife, precious mother, sister, niece, cousin and friend went to be with the Lord while surrounded by family on Wednesday October 2, 2024.

Our dear Sandee attracted us all to her with her passion for life and sparkling spirit. She was an incredibly unique woman, the complete package of beauty, brains, wit, and a little whimsy. Sandee had many magnificent qualities, but most of all she had a down-to-earth heart of gold and gift for making everyone feel seen, with the ability to fill any space she entered with a warm, loving glow. She was fiercely devoted to her family and friends and loved them boundlessly. While we cannot comprehend a world without her, she had remarkable unwavering faith and is now with God and the rest of her family who passed before her.

Sandee was born in Savannah Georgia on December 30, 1959 to Hubert McDonald Jr. and Margaret Inez Teal McDonald but soon moved to Charlotte North Carolina where she spent most of her childhood. After moving to Dunwoody in 1978, Sandee completed high school at Dunwoody High School and attained her college degree from Oglethorpe University in 1982. After initially working as an accountant, Sandee married her first husband William Howard Callaway Jr. in 1987 and raised two daughters, Lauren and Anna. During her time volunteering while her girls attended Northbrook preschool, Sandee realized her true passion was working with young children and became a teacher herself. She touched many children's lives at Northbrook preschool and later at Kings Ridge Christian School.

She is survived by her Husband Kirk Thornburg who she re-met later in life and spent the last 15 years together as best friends and true loves; Mother Margaret Inez Teal McDonald; Brother Charles Scott McDonald; daughter Lauren Nahodyl, son-in-law Brian, and grandson William; daughter Anna Karleskint, son-in-law Jake, and grandson Silas; step son Tim Thornburg and his wife Meg, with step-grandsons Johnny, Lucas, and Nathan and step-granddaughter Samantha; step daughter Amy Mosgrove and her husband Matt, with step-granddaughter Chloie. She was affectionately known as Dee Dee by her grandchildren. Sandee is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and niece. Sandee was preceded in death by her father Hubert McDonald Jr.
