Mrs. Rudene Davis Daniel, age 98, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 31, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on October 23, 1927, in Clem, Georgia, Rudene was the daughter of the late Sam Davis and Mattie Jones Davis. From an early age, Rudene demonstrated a commitment to excellence. She was the only child in her family to graduate from high school, earning the distinction of Salutatorian of Whitesburg High School while also serving as captain of the girls' basketball team. Those achievements reflected the perseverance and determination that would become hallmarks of her life.
She devoted many years to her work as a floor lady with Genesco General Shoe before embracing a role that became dear to both her heart and the hearts of generations of students. Known affectionately as the "Ice Cream Lady" at Central Middle School, Rudene greeted countless children with a warm smile and kind spirit, continuing to work until the remarkable age of 89. Her life was a beautiful reminder that serving others is one of life's greatest callings.
A faithful member of Beulah Baptist Church and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class, Rudene's faith quietly guided the way she lived. She believed in treating others with kindness, loving her family well, and faithfully serving wherever she was needed. Whether cheering on the Atlanta Braves, sharing stories with friends, or simply spending time with those she loved, she found joy in life's simple blessings.
Above all else, Rudene cherished her family. Being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was the role she treasured most. She delighted in family gatherings, celebrated every milestone, and found immense happiness in watching each new generation grow. Her home was a place of warmth, encouragement, and unconditional love, and the values she instilled will continue to live on in those she leaves behind.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Belinda and Jerry Gossage; her son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Melinda Daniel; her grandchildren, Candace and David Clifton, Danielle Rowlette, Tyler and Jamie Daniel, Sierra and Casey Smith, Lexi Worthy, Holly and Joey Wagner, Katy and Derek Preston; her great-grandchildren, Hagen Clifton, Easton Clifton, Journee Roberts, Gatlin Daniel, Kynnedi Smith, and Kasen Smith; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing her.
In addition to her parents, she was welcomed into Heaven by her beloved husband, Jack Daniel; her grandson, Joshua Gregory Daniel; and her siblings, Kathleen Henderson, Martha Wilburn, Willen Prescott, Dorsey Davis, Billy Davis, Durward Davis, Estelle Webb, Ruth Taylor, Gladys Duncan, and Joyce Jiles.
Though nearly a century of life has come to a close, Rudene's legacy will continue through the family she loved so deeply, the friends she faithfully encouraged, and the many students who will forever remember the kindness of their "Ice Cream Lady." Her life was a testament to humility, perseverance, faith, and unconditional love, and she will be dearly missed while fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Almon Funeral Home with Rev. Allen Wilburn and Rev. Rodney Wilburn officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday from noon until the service hour at Almon Funeral Home.
Interment will follow at Carroll Memory Gardens with David Clifton, Tyler Daniel, Hagen Clifton, Easton Clifton, Casey Smith, and Jerry Gossage serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Kasen Smith and Gatlin Daniel.
