Ms. Rosemary Maddox Siegel 57 of Carrollton passed away suddenly on September 27, 2010 at her home on Brandywine Trail. Ms. Siegel was born on October 15, 1952 at Tanner Hospital to Mrs. Mildred H. Maddox and the late Coach Hugh G. Maddox Sr. After graduating as a star athlete from Carrolton High School in 1970, Siegel went on to compete in basketball, tennis, and volleyball at West Georgia College where she was named Academic Athlete of the Year for 1972-1973. She received her BA in 1974. Continuing her education, Rosemary earned a degree from the Medical College of Georgia in physical therapy, but her competitive nature never ceased, only now her forte was running. Competing in grueling full marathons was a passion for this Carrollton resident. Running in events all over the country, beginning with the Marine Corp. Marathon in Washington, D.C. , she then moved on to the Twin City race in Minnesota, and then to California for the Big Sur Marathon. It was her outstanding finish of three hours and twenty minutes in the Twin Cities that granted her life long dream, to run the Boston Marathon. However, she never completed her personal goal of completing one of these 26.2 mile races in less than three hours. Siegel was preceded in death by her father, Hugh G. Maddox Sr. She is survived by her son Jason Siegel, her mother Mrs. Mildred H. Maddox, and her brother and sister-in law Dr. Gil and Margaret Maddox, all of Carrollton. "Rosie" is also survived by her nephews and nieces Mr. Mac Maddox, Capt. Stephen Maddox and wife Leslie, Margaret Michelle Maddox, Annalese Maddox, and Morgan Maddox. The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. Memorial service will be at Almon Chapel beginning at 3pm Thursday September 30, 2010. Almon Funeral Home of Carrollton has charge of arrangements.
