Obituary

Robert Preston Wilson, Sr., of Carrollton passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026, at the age of 85.

Robert was born November 30, 1940 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to James Waite Wilson, Sr. and Geraldine Carney Wilson. His family later moved from Atlanta to Carrollton, Georgia when he was in 8th grade, where he would build a life rooted in faith, family, and community.

He graduated from Carrollton High School in 1958 and went on to attend The University of Georgia, graduating in 1962. During his time there, he was a proud member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity.

On June 3, 1962, Robert married his longtime sweetheart, Kay Tatum Wilson. Together, they made their home in Carrollton.

Robert was a faithful member of Carrollton First Methodist Church, where he served on the board and was an active participant in the Believers Sunday School class.

He and Kay were blessed with three wonderful children: Robert Preston Wilson, Jr., Mark Tatum Wilson, and Mary Kathleen (Katy) Wilson Mills. Robert's professional life was marked by versatility and dedication. He began working in the family business, The Foundry, and later pursued careers in the mobile home industry, real estate, and ultimately as a residential and commercial real estate appraiser.

Robert found great joy in the outdoors and in time spent with family and friends. He enjoyed golf, hunting, water sports, and camping - especially camping trips with his children. Annual beach trips with extended family were eagerly anticipated and deeply treasured. He and Kay also enjoyed traveling and sharing meaningful time with close friends.

Known for his playful spirit and warm heart, Robert was beloved by neighborhood children, who would often come knocking to see if he could come out and play. He delighted in giving them rides in his old Army jeep, creating lasting memories for many.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, James Waite Wilson, Sr. and Geraldine Carney Wilson; his brother, Jim Wilson; and his brother-in-law, Robert (Bob) Tatum.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Kay Tatum Wilson; his sons and daughters-in-law, Preston (Roberta) Wilson and Mark (Alea) Wilson; and his daughter and son-in-law, Katy (Andrew) Mills. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Cora (Robert) Chenault, Preston Wilson III, Tatum Wilson, Campbell (Ryan) Young, Luke Wilson, Kate Mills, Drew Mills, Wilson Mills, and Artie Mills; his brother Ghent (Tracy) Wilson; his sisters-in-law Patsy (Bill) Rhodes, Gwen Wilson and Karen Tatum; as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A private family graveside service will be held.
