Robert Martin Whitehead Mr. Robert Martin Whitehead, age 78, of Whitesburg, Georgia died Saturday June 20, 2009. Mr. Whitehead was born in Dennis Cove, Tennessee on June 25, 1930, the son of the late Grover Cleveland Whitehead and Annie Holly Whitehead.. Mr. Whitehead was a retired Sgt. First Class Infantry of the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1973 where he served one tour of duty in Korea, and two tours in Vietnam. During his military career, he was awarded the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Korean Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge 2D Award, and numerous other ribbons and awards. He was a retired welder with W&P Welding, and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his daughters, Carol Hinman Chandler of Collins, GA, Debbie Yvonne Motes and Susan Theresa Whitehead, Rome. Ga, sons, John Andrew Hinman, Douglasville, Robert Mark Whitehead, Carrollton, Timothy Whitehead, Johnson City, TN, grandchildren, Kristy Chandler, Damian, Brandon, and Adam Hinman, Jessica Mitchell, Austin Chandler, Phillip Pilgrim, Lindsay Dreher, Drew Pilgrim, Lisa Vinson, Robert Michael Whitehead and Blake Whitehead, 4 great grandchildren, sister, Geneva Smalling, of Watauga, TN, sister-in-law Lucy Whitehead, of Roan Mountain, TN, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Schbert Whitehead, 4 brothers and 5 sisters. Graveside services will be Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at 11 AM at Whitehead Cemetery in Dennis Cove, TN with full Military Honors. Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers.
