Mr. Robert Martin Matthews, age 80 of Carrollton, Georgia died Friday, October 23, 2015. He was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on May 3, 1935, the son of the late William A. Matthews and Clara Brown Matthews. Mr. Matthews had taught speech and drama at the University of West Georgia and later owned and operated a convenience store, Big Oaks Shoppette. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was extremely creative having a passion for artwork, painting and gardening. He also enjoyed doing various do-it-yourself projects for the house, as well as fishing and being outdoors. Survivors include his wife, Ginger Matthews; daughter and son-in-law, Rosann and Lloyd Kaylor of Villa Rica; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Laura Anne Matthews of Aiken, South Carolina and grandson, Mitchell Matthews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Brown Matthews. The family would like to express its sincere appreciation to Cottage Landing facility and Journey Healthcare (hospice) for the loving care that they have provided to all of us during this difficult time. Memorial service will be Saturday, October 31 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Almon Funeral Home with Minister Brian Jackson officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time. Inurnment will be in the OLPH Catholic Church Cemetery with Father Rafael Carballo officiating and American Legion Post #143 providing military honors.
