Mr. Richard Dorsey Davis age 72, of Carrollton, Georgia passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024.

Richard was born on September 11, 1951 in Carrollton, Georgia the son of the late Junior "J.D. Pete" Davis and Melba Shadrix Davis.

Above all, Richard was a dedicated family man, always putting his loved ones first. He took immense pride in supporting and caring for his family, creating a nurturing and loving environment. He cherished every moment spent with family and made no secret of how fiercely he loved his wife, children and grandchildren.

Early on, he was an accomplished Trojan athlete. He was a member of the 1968 North Georgia championship football team, runner up state champions, and captained the 1969 Trojan baseball team his senior season, in which he was voted MVP. After high school, he served his country in the United States Air Force Reserve, with the 80th Aerial Support Squadron.

Professionally, he had a distinguished career at Southwire, spanning nearly 44 years. His versatility saw him work in various departments, culminating in his role as Vice President of Construction Sales, from which he retired in September 2014. He collected countless awards and recognitions throughout his career, but was more proud of the way he surrounded himself with the right people at work to be successful. Known for his keen eye for talent, he was instrumental in hiring and nurturing numerous long-term employees. The relationships and partnerships he created across the country through his dedication to work touched many lives and made a lasting impact on the company that Southwire has become today.

Beyond his professional achievements, he found joy in cooking, fishing, hunting, and golf. An avid golfer early on, he cherished his time on the course. He later turned his attention to his children's sports and school activities, as his family always took precedence. His most cherished moments were spent fishing with friends and family at Lake Wedowee. His lake house, one he shared with his brother, was the place he spent most of his free time later in life. It was his haven for gathering around good food or sporting events. As many know, he had a true passion for cooking, one that he shared with everyone around him. Whether it was a casual barbecue or a holiday feast, he enjoyed nothing more than surrounding himself with the people he loved and sharing a meal with anyone who would join. From crawfish boils, to turkey fries and smoking more meat than his family could ever eat, he was always planning his next cookout and wanting to know who needed a good meal or who he could cook for that might be going through hard times.

An active member of the Sunset Hills Country Club for 35 years, UWG Athletic Booster Club, and First Baptist Church, Richard will be remembered for his love for life, dedication to his family, and unwavering support to his community and colleagues. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane McWhorter Davis; sons, Chris Davis (Niccole), Dustin Davis (Meghan); grandchildren, Ansley, Beckett and Charleston Davis, Monroe and Evie Davis; sister, Ella Akin (John); brother, Rodney Davis (Paula); sister, Janet Gilbert (Jack) and several nieces and nephews. Outside of his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Jeff Davis.

The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Thursday, June 6, 2024 from 4 pm to 6 pm.

Honoring his wishes a private family service will be held.

Interment will be in Carroll Memory Gardens.

Members of the family will serve as pallbearers.
