Mr. Raymon Austin (Ray A.) Adams, 71, of Morningside Drive, Carrollton passed away Friday, October 16, 2009. Mr. Adams was born in Gwinnett County on July 1, 1938, the son of the late Henry Caster Adams and Millie Lou Edwards Adams. He moved to Carrollton in 1960 serving as the Carroll County Extension Agent from 1960 until 1970. In 1970, he began working with Carroll EMC retiring after 25 years. He then went to work at Almon Funeral Home. Mr. Adams was a member of the Civitan Club, Carroll County Chamber of Commerce, past member of the Lions Club, Ruritan Club, past City Councilman and Mayor Pro-Tem of the City of Carrollton. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon. Survivors include his wife, Melba Young Adams; daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Lois Adams of Sarasota, Florida; son and daughter-in-law, John Thomas and Pam Adams of Atlanta; grandchildren, John Thomas (Beau) Adams, Jr., and Gillian Zerah Adams; sister, Sylvia Scales of Lawrenceville; sisters-in-law, Mary Adams of Duluth, Martha Adams of Smyrna; brother-in-law, Bob and Enid Facette of Ellenwood; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Helen and Roy Dyer of Snellville, Wanda and Verlon Bagwell of Boaz, Alabama; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tom and Judy Young of Springville, Alabama; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Timothy Ray Adams, four brothers, two sisters and parents-in-law. Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 20 at 2 P. M. from the chapel of Almon Funeral Home with Dr. Steve Davis, Rev. Larry Insko, and Mr. Wayne Mosely officiating. Pallbearers will be Bill Shackleford, Carl Brack, Marty Smith, Eley Loftin, Ed Smith and Gary Bullock. Honorary pallbearers will be Nat Shackleford, Bobby Jones, Dr. Dexter Byrd, Louis Warford, Bob Collier, Jim Shackleford, Andrew Shackleford, the Deacons of First Baptist Church, Civitan Club, Carroll EMC, Jerry's Country Kitchen Breakfast Club, Maple Street Diner Lunch Bunch, and Almon Funeral Home Employees. The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Monday from 4 p. m. until 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be sent to the First Baptist Church, 102 Dixie Street, Carrollton, GA 30117 or your church or your favorite charitable organization.
