Mr. Charles Randy Smith, age 57, of Carrollton, Georgia died Thursday, May 15, 2014. Mr. Smith was born in Carrollton, Georgia on December 23, 1956, the son of Charles Anderson Smith and the late Martha Ann Baxter Smith. He was an insurance agent with American General and had worked with other agencies over his 27 year career. Randy was a member of Eastside Baptist Church, the Adult Sunday School class and the Cattlemen's Association. He was an avid Carrollton Trojan and Georgia Bulldog football fan. Survivors include his wife, Sherry R. Smith; father, Charles Smith of Carrollton; sister, Debra Smith of Carrollton; uncles, Billy (Myra) Baxter of Carrollton, J.N. (Onie) Baxter of Carrollton; aunts, Sammie Stewart of Woodland, Alabama, Floy Chapman of Pine Hill, Alabama, Elaine Thornton of Ranburne, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Ann Baxter Smith; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harvie and Ora Reid; paternal grandparents, Sam and Bessie Smith and maternal grandparents, Preston and Carrie Baxter. The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Friday evening from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral service will be Saturday, May 17 at 2 p.m. at Eastside Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Brown and Rev. Kerry Cooke officiating. His body will be placed in state at the church from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour. Music will be by the Eastside Baptist Church Choir and J.N. and Onie Baxter. Pallbearers will be Stanley Folds, Colby Houston, Wade Brown, Cavin Cole, Brett Barnes, Jerry Driver, Frank Kenerly and James Williams. Interment will be in the Carrollton City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Eastside Baptist Church, Diabetes Association or American Heart Association.
