Phyllis Lewis Fountain passed away on January 18, 2025 at The Birches in Villa Rica, GA. She was born to Hugh and Geneva Lewis in Shady Dale, GA on November 3, 1938. When she was four, her family moved to Monticello, GA. Phyllis was active in high school with basketball, debate team, and the Beta club.

Phyllis attended West Georgia College (now the University of West Georgia). As a junior, she was selected Miss West Georgia and graduated with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education in 1960. She taught elementary school in Carrollton, GA for several years until she joined the faculty at West Georgia College to teach Elementary Education. Phyllis was asked to be the Executive Director of The West Georgia Foundation where she was successful at fund raising during her tenure, creating the "A Day" campaign in 1982. She retired in mid-1990 and earned the distinguished service award from the University of West Georgia that year. During retirement, Phyllis began painting on wood, canvas, tin wear, and furniture. She and her mother, also a painter, regularly presented their paintings for sale at craft shows throughout middle Georgia.

She is survived by sister her Joyce Hearn of Washington, D.C., several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Harrell Case Fountain, their beloved infant son, Harrell Case (Casey) Fountain, Jr., her sister Gloria Lowrey of Athens, and brother John Lewis of Marietta.

In accordance with her wishes, she was cremated. No service is planned.
