Peggy Ann Barnes Maxwell, age 82, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 17, 2025. She was born on December 22, 1942, in Bowdon, Georgia, the daughter of the late James Horace Barnes and Mary Dixson Barnes.

Peggy dedicated her career to serving children as a cafeteria manager at Central Middle School and Whitesburg Elementary School, retiring after 27 years of faithful service. She was raised in Antioch Baptist Church and later became a devoted member of Stripling Chapel United Methodist Church, where her faith was the foundation of her life.

From 1992 to 2014, Peggy shared her love of music by singing in the community chorus.

A woman of deep faith, she read her Bible every day with her daughter, Rena, finding comfort and strength in God's word. Peggy was a loving and supportive mother, and her family meant everything to her.

She is survived by her daughter, Rena Maxwell; brothers, Jim Barnes and Harold Barnes; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Max Maxwell, and her son, Keith Maxwell, and her sister, Sybil Woods.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Stripling Chapel United Methodist Church with Dr. John Pennington officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 12noon until service time.

Pallbearers will be Brett Barnes, Allan Heilbroun, Johnathon Heilbroun, Kris Childers, Brent Paxton and Brian Entrekin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Watson, Robert Powers, GregThreadgill and Tim Barnes.

Interment will follow in Carroll Memory Gardens.
