Mr. Olen Derrell Baker, 91, of Carrollton, Georgia, peacefully entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on February 12, 2025, at home, surrounded by his loving family. His life was a testament to unwavering faith, humble service, and deep devotion to his family and community.

Born on August 3, 1933, in Bowdon, Georgia, Olen was the son of Millard Baker and Lovie Kaylor Baker. He graduated from Ranburne High School in 1951 and soon after married the love of his life, Shirley Williams Baker, on February 25, 1953. Their marriage of over 70 years was a beautiful example of love, faith, and commitment.

Olen honorably served his country in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956, stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. Following his service, he pursued his education at West Georgia College and attended Atlanta Law School. He dedicated 35 years of his career to Carrollton Federal Savings and Loan (now Truist Bank), where his integrity and leadership were well respected. His commitment to his community was evident through his service as a member and past president of the Carrollton Lions Club and as a member of the Carroll County Cattleman's Association. He also co-managed the Centre Livestock Sales Barn for a number of years, combining his love for agriculture with his deep connections to local farmers and ranchers.

A man of deep and abiding faith, Olen was a devoted member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for 65 years. His walk with Christ was evident in every aspect of his life—through his kindness, generosity, and steadfast commitment to serving others. He led by example, showing his family and all who knew him what it meant to live a life centered on faith and grace.

Olen found great joy in the simple blessings of life. He loved traveling across the country with family and spending time fishing. For 10 years he did wedding and anniversary events capturing memories through his passion for photography. However, his greatest joy was cattle farming, a hobby that reflected his love for God's creation and the land he cherished. Above all, he treasured time spent with his beloved family—his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—who were the light of his life.

Olen Baker's legacy of faith, integrity, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Though he will be deeply missed, his family takes comfort in knowing that he is now at peace in his eternal home with the Lord.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Shirley Williams Baker; daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Tony Haynes, Jenny and Elliott Pate; grandchildren, Bo Haynes, Kelli and Jared Johnson, Reed Tanner, Jr., Cole Tanner and Olivia Pate; great grandchildren, Caroline Johnson, Maggie Johnson, Ava Johnson, Aubrey Haynes, Kimball Haynes; brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Bonnie Baker; sister-in-law, Helen Baker and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Winifred and Dewey Kilgore, Mary and Olin Williams, Billie and Gary Mitchell; brothers, Andy Baker and Wayne Baker.

The family will receive friends at Oak Grove Baptist Church on Friday, February 14, 2025 from 5 pm until 7pm

Funeral service will be Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 11 am at Oak Grove Baptist Church with Dr. David McCracken and Rev. Mark Williams officiating. His body will be placed in state from 10am until service hour. Music will be provided by Donnie Muse and Chasity Dedman.

Pallbearers will be Bo Haynes, Jared Johnson, Reed Tanner, Jr., Cole Tanner, Bob Mayer and Don Caswell.

Interment will be in Carroll Memory Gardens.
