Obituary for Mr. Jerrell Harvard Haynes

Mr. Jerrell Harvard Haynes, age 82 of Carrollton, Georgia passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2018.

Mr. Haynes was born in Carroll County, Georgia on July 15, 1935, the son of the late Bob and Christine Jacobs Haynes. He graduated Carrollton High School in 1953 and then joined the U.S. Marine Corp. on October 1953 until October of 1955 where he ranked as Corporal. He then married the love of his life Gretel Gillespie on June 16, 1956. During his working career he was employed at the U.S. Postal Office, Duffey Sausage Company, Du-Gro Frozen Foods as a Sales Manager. He was owner and operator of South Park Chevron Service Station for many years. Retirement could not hold him down, so he took on odd jobs after retirement at Monks Grocery, Gold Kist and Traylor Grocery in Bowdon. He also worked from an early age thru high school at Smith Grocery in Carrollton. He was a member of North Point Baptist Church, formerly West Carrollton Baptist Church and past president of the Evening Lion's Club. His hobbies included his wood working shop, keeping the yard clean and attractive and drinking coffee at Jerry's Country Kitchen and Huddle House.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Gretel Gillespie Haynes; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry (Anita) Haynes, Tony (Pam) Haynes and Andy Haynes all of Carrollton; sister, Melba (Glenn) Mason; sister-in-law, Barbara Haynes; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lawrence (Nancy) Gillespie; grandchildren, Matt (Tara) Haynes, Bo (Laura) Haynes, Katie Haynes, Kelli Haynes (Jared) Johnson; great grandchildren, Caroline Johnson, Aubrey Haynes, Kimball Haynes, Henry Haynes; nieces and nephews, David Haynes, Allison Haynes (Joe) Driver, Chris (Lisa) Carroll, Rob Carroll, Molly Mason (Darin) Baldwin, Will (Melody) Mason, Clint (Lisa) Gillespie and Bart (Lori) Gillespie. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Wendell Haynes and a sister, Brenda Haynes Carroll.

The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Friday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Almon Funeral Home with Pastor Lee Wimberly officiating.

Pallbearers will be Bo Haynes, Matt Haynes, Jared Johnson, David Haynes, Will Mason, Darin Baldwin, Rob Carroll and Bart Gillespie.

Interment will be in Carroll Memory Gardens with Rev. Joe Driver officiating and American Legion Post# 143 to fold and present the flag.

Memorial contributions may be made to North Point Baptist Church, 1400 Cedar Street, Carrollton, Georgia 30117.
