Obituary

Surrounded by her family and their deep love for her, Nova Lee Simmons left this life on July 20, 2024.

Nova was born in Elberton Georgia on November 23, 1935, the first child of James Corbett Simmons and Fannie Lee Clemmons. Nova's early years were spent being a big sister to a younger brother and sister, and a helpmate to her mother and father. Nova graduated from Bledsoe City high school and went on to graduate from David Lipscomb College. Over her working years, Nova held such positions as caterer and assistant to a university president, but it was her 20 plus years with SunTrust Bank that would be remembered as the profession where she excelled and utilized her many talents.

After retirement Nova spent her first few years traveling and exploring parts of the world she had only read about. Upon moving to Carrollton, she pursued her dreams and found ways to serve others through membership in the Kiwanis Club and Carrollton Presbyterian Church. Later in life she settled into a private life that allowed her to share the many lessons she had learned over her years of living. Anyone who sat at Nova's table immediately knew that she had mastered cooking and agreed that her time spent at Cornell studying pastries and gravies was time well spent. And everyone who spent time in her presence was gifted with knowledge that could change their entire world view. Even in her final hours, Nova taught her family to always pray for wisdom, and reminded them that when they walk with the Lord there is nothing to fear.

Nova was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Joe Simmons, Ph.D. and her nephew, James Simmons. She is survived by her sister, Lynn (Jack) Daughtery of Ooltewah TN, sister-in-law, Pat Simmons of Trilby, FL, many nieces and nephews, and her many friends who, over the years, became her family. She is also survived by her beloved dog, Olivia, and her cat, Thomas.

According to her wishes, Nova Lee will be cremated, and a grave side service will occur at a later date. Though our hearts are broken we know that we are better human beings for having known and loved her. Bye for now, Nova Lee.
