Mr. Nelson A. Vaughn, 84, of Carrollton, GA passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013. Mr. Nelson A. Vaughn was born in Ashtabula, Ohio, on July 21, 1928, the son of late John Arthur Vaughn and Pearl A. Sigman Vaughn. He was raised in Michigan and lived for two years in Brazil as a teenager. He is a veteran of the U. S. Air Force, where he served during the Korean War Conflict for three years and seven months. Vaughn attended the University of Georgia and received a BS in Education. He taught school for a time, then left to enter the metal-working trades where he spend the balance of his working life. He retired in , 1992 from Stoffell Seals Corporation as a machinist. He resided in Carrollton for almost 30 years with his beloved wife, Wylly Warren Vaughn. He is author of the non-fiction work, Prisoners of the River Araguaia, about his time spent in Brazil with his father. Survivors include his sister, Betty (Don) Daugherty of Bellaire, MI; a daughter, Angela T. Vaughn of Atlanta, GA; sons, John A. (Leanna) Vaughn of Gastonia, NC, and David N. Vaughn of Greenville, SC; stepsons, Bob (Sonja) Bagby of Carrollton, Bill (Melanie) Bagby of Tallapoosa; eighteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wylly W. Vaughn of Carrollton. A memorial service will be held at the Community Church, 1428 E. Hwy 166, Bowdon, GA, on Sunday, June 9, 2013 at 12 noon with the Reverends Roy Garrett Jr., and Lumis Garrett officiating.
