Nellie Walker
Adams
Mar 23, 1935 — Mar 15, 2025
Nellie Walker Adams, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on March 15, 2025, at the age of 89, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on March 23, 1935, in Carrollton, GA, she was the cherished daughter of Hubert Walker and Mertis Henderson McCoy. After her mother's marriage to Alford McCoy, Nellie was fortunate to be embraced by a loving stepfather who became a steady and treasured presence in her life.
She married – Moreland Adams, Sr. in 1951, and together they built a legacy of faith and family, raising five children with deep-rooted principles of hard work, service and compassion. She took great pride in the fact that all of her children pursued careers in healthcare, a testament to the values of care and dedication she instilled in them. She herself worked in healthcare for 25 years at Villa Rica City Hospital, serving with dedication and compassion until her retirement in 1997.
A devout member of St. John Pure Holiness Church of God for nearly 60 years, Nellie was a missionary, a Sunday School teacher, and a guiding light in her community. She shared the gospel, cared for those in need, and even in her final days, hosted Bible study from her sickbed.
Beyond her service, Nellie was an avid quilter and gardener, finding joy and peace in creating beauty with her hands. Her quilts, like her love, wrapped her family in warmth, and her garden flourished as a reflection of her nurturing spirit.
She was preceded in death by her father, mother and stepfather; sisters, Rosie Mae Middlebrook and Joann McKey; brother, Oscar Walker; beloved husband, Moreland Adams, Sr.; and son, Moreland Adams, Jr.
She is survived by sons, Steve Adams and Gregory Adams; daughters, Mercedine Adams Harrison and Sharon (Connell) Walker; her sister, Frances Holts; sister-in-law, Janet Adams Echols; brother, Jimmy Lewis (Wille Mae) McCoy; brother-in-law, Jack Adams; grandchildren, Dexter Shackelford, Val Shackelford, Tyrone Hutchinson, Dr. Yolanda (Chaka) Hutchinson Allen, Ronda (Gerald) Walker Jones, Monica Levell, Candi (Yusef) Walker Neal, Dena (Geoffrey) Adams-McNeish, Jeffrey (Nicole) Adams, and a loving legacy of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 23rd, at 3:00 PM at Tabernacle Baptist Church of Carrollton. The visitation will be Saturday at St. John Pure Holiness Church at 421 Willie N St in Carrollton from 5:00-7:00PM.
Interment will follow at West Georgia Memorial Park. A reception will be held at the Venue on Cedar at 809 Cedar Street in Carrollton.
