Mrs. Nancy Lee Hicks, age 82, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away on October 2, 2026.
Nancy was born September 4, 1944, in New York City, New York, to the late Dr. Richard Warren James and Ruth Sophia Volkmann James. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Florida State University and taught mostly middle school Language Arts during her 30 years of public service to students and families. She especially loved helping and loving students who were experiencing challenging home environments like she experienced growing up.
A devoted member of First Baptist Church in Carrollton, she was a member of the Generations Sunday School class. Her love of helping students and people was grounded in her love of Christ. Her loving husband of 62 years, Donald Ray Hicks (Daddy), and she, came to Christ early in their marriage. With God at the center, they raised their three children, Donald Ray Hicks II (Lina), Allison Hicks Pollak (Eric), and David James Hicks (Sara). Her grandchildren, Elizabeth Pollak (Greg), Joshua Pollak (Sarah), Mason Hicks, Samantha Pollak, Emily Hicks, Dawson Hicks (Lacey), Tyler Hicks, and Jackson Hicks, brought much joy and happiness to her! She loved her great-grandchildren, Alice Rose Pollak, Charles Frances Pollak, Micah Philip Nudi, Audrey Jane Pollak and Ava Margaret Hicks, very much. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Pollak, Mason Hicks, Dawson Hicks, Tyler Hicks, and Jackson Hicks. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Generations Sunday School class.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 7th, from 12:00 to 1:30 at Carrollton First Baptist. The service will follow at 2:00 at the church. Friends and family are welcomed to stop by the Club House at the Birches on Maple, 100 Maple View Drive, Carrollton, after the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church General Fund, 102 Dixie Street, Carrollton, GA 30117.
