Obituary

VIVIAN FIDLER Hattie Vivian Stokes Fidler, age 92, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away Monday, November 27, 2017. Vivian was born June 22, 1925, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was a graduate of Baton Rouge High School and Louisiana State University with a Business Administration Degree. For over sixty years, Vivian was a faithful, inspirational, and devoted member of the Carrollton Presbyterian Church. She served as an elder of the church, was chairperson of the Worship Committee, Moderator and Circle Leader of the Presbyterian Women for numerous years and was awarded an honorary life member of the Presbyterian Women. She and her husband, Frank, taught Sunday school for many years and encouraged her sons, Lee and Kirby, to become Boy Scouts by serving as Den Mother of Troup 179. In addition to her love for her church, she enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends. She had special cooking skills being known for her gourmet and Cajun cuisine as well as being an excellent baker of cakes and pies. Sewing was her favorite pastime becoming an accomplished seamstress, as well as creating needlepoint, cross stitch, and embroidery works. Quilting was her expertise serving as charter member of the West Georgia Quilter's Guild and an active member of the First Friday's Quilting Group. Vivian always wanted to help others and was very active in the community being a charter member of the Carrollton PEO Civic Organization. Additionally, because of her love of music, she was patroness for the West Georgia College Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity. Vivian was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-nine years, Franklin Willis Fidler, her parents John Ellison Stokes and Della Kirby Stokes; and a sister Della Ruth Stokes Hall. She is survived by her three children, sons Lee (Alison) Fidler, Kirby Fidler, and daughter Mary Anne (Andy) Taylor; three grandchildren Robin Fidler Lee (Dave), Ellison Fidler, Mac Fidler and sister Betty Stokes Partenheimer. Vivian "Meno" will be remembered for faith and her strong commitment to her church and family. She was a devoted loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. The entire Fidler family expresses sincere THANKS to Heaven Sent Helpers and their special caregivers, Darlene Priest, Kathryn Gentry, Kathy Vinson, and to Kindred Hospice for all of their attention. The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Friday, December 1, 2017, from 5pm until 7pm. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, December 2, 2017, at 11 a.m., at the Carrollton Presbyterian Church, with Reverends Tom Buchannan, Harry Barrow, and Gardner Wilkes, officiating. Music will be provided by organist Dawn McCord and soloist Phyllis Head. Pallbearers will be Jim Carter, Roger Denney, Wylie Barrow, Mark Hall, Mac Fidler, and Andy Taylor. Interment will be in Carroll Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts to the Carrollton Presbyterian Church, 124 Maple St, Carrollton, GA 30117.
