On the morning of September 29, 2009, Mr. Ivey Gaines West 96, left this world to be with his Lord and Savior.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen, an infant son William Ivey, daughter-in-law, Janet Lewis West and siblings, Clarice and J. B. West.
He is survived by his son, David Harris West, of Temple, brother, Charles Frank West, of Columbus, grandchildren, Krista West, of Temple and Mr. & Mrs. Mark West of Temple, great grandchildren, Aidan David West, and Mr and Mrs. Curtis West, Mr. And Mrs. Eric West, Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Griffin, and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stone. He also survived by numerous great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Ivey West was a graduate of Young Harris College, a Mason, school teacher, farmer, Sunday School teacher for many years and was also instrumental in the founding of the cemetery fund for Concord United Methodist Church in Temple. Mr. West was also a faithful and loving husband to his wife, Mary Ellen of 67 years. He was also her primary caregiver for 18 years up until her death on December 25, 2001.
According to their wishes, there will be a joint memorial service held for both Mr. and Mrs. Ivey West on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at the Chapel of Almon Funeral Home at 2 p. m. with Linda Hessel officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 noon until 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in the name of Mr. Ivey West, to Tanner Hospice Care Group, P.O. Box 1136, Carrollton, GA 30112.
