Moria Hamrick MacKinnon, age 68 of Carrollton died Tuesday, December 13, 2011 surrounded by her family and friends. She was born to the late J. V. and Sarah Hamrick of Carrollton. She graduated from Carrollton High School in 1961, then Auburn University with a degree in Education in 1965. She received her Masters Degree from Georgia State in Education. Moria taught English in Columbus School System, Gwinnett County School System and retired from Chesterfield County School System as department chair in Midlothian, Virginia. She married Dan MacKinnon in June of 1980 in Columbus, Georgia. After moving back to Carrollton 11 years ago, Moria was very active with her high school class members. She was a member of the Carroll County Historical Society and served on the board as secretary for two terms. She was involved with the Ferst Foundation and Friends of the Library. Moria is survived by her husband of 31 years, Dan MacKinnon; sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Rusty Lambert of Carrollton; niece and her husband, Brooke and Tim Mobley of Carrollton; nephew and his wife, Jay and Misty Lambert of Carrollton; niece and her husband, Cynthia and Jeff Zino of Tempe, Arizona; nephew, Scott Brown of Longbeach, California; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Alice and Frank Brown of Mason, Texas. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Carrollton on Friday, December 16, 2011 at 11 a.m. with Dr. Dean Milford officiating. Interment will be in Carroll Memory Gardens.
