Mrs. Melba Young Adams, age 86, of Carrollton, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.

She was born in Crossville, Alabama on October 7, 1938, daughter of the late Bennie Leonard Young and Eunice Lloyd Whitaker Young.

Mrs. Adams made a lasting impact on the Carrollton community where she lived for more than 60 years. A retired educator, she dedicated 25 years to teaching in the Carrollton City School system with most of her career as a beloved first-grade teacher at Maple Street School and then at the newly formed Carrollton Elementary School.

As a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Carrollton she was an active participant in the Women's Missionary Union (WMU) and Sunday School programs. Her faith and commitment to her community were evident in everything she did.

Outside of her professional and spiritual life, she enjoyed a variety of hobbies including crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and spending time with her friends in lunch and supper groups.

She is survived by her daughter, Becky Adams; son and daughter-in-law, John and Pam Adams; grandchildren, Beau Adams and Gillian Adams; sister-in-law, Judy Young and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Adams; infant son, Timothy Ray Adams; sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Roy Dyer; sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Verlon Bagwell; brother, Thomas Young; and her husband's parents, siblings and their spouses.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 3 PM from the chapel of Almon Funeral Home with Rev. Jennifer Jindrich, Rev. Keith Hancock, Rev. Stan Young and Dr. David Hughes officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1 PM until the service hour.

A private interment will follow in Carroll Memory Gardens with Charlie Almon, Marty Smith, Tom Dyer, Stan Young, Steve Chandler and Andrew Shackleford serving as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers are Janet Brown, Ed Smith, Jim Shackleford, Bill Shackleford, Chris Smith, Jeff Russell, Almon Funeral Home Staff, former Fidelis Sunday School Class and the Women of Faith Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church Carrollton, Maple Street and Carrollton Elementary School Staff and the Tanner Health System Volunteer Team.
