Obituary

Martha Jackson Hughes, age 94, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026.

Born on July 16, 1931, in Carrollton, she was the daughter of the late I.R. "Render" Jackson and Elsie Euliene Lyle Jackson.

Martha dedicated over 40 years as a bookkeeper for HW Richards Lumber Company before retiring. A devoted member of Beulah Baptist Church, she served as Church Treasurer and actively participated in the Women's Missionary Union (WMU). She was also a proud member of the Eastern Star for 50 years and the Circle of Friends. Martha found joy in volunteering and cherished her church community.

She loved family reunions and was known for her passion for cooking and gardening. A true go-getter, Martha's greatest joy came from her family, whom she deeply loved and cherished.

Martha is survived by her daughter, Kathy Hughes Wallace (Duane); her son, Larry Ellis Hughes; grandchildren Barry Hughes, Brad Hughes (Ashley), Chris Hughes, Toni Drake, and Dusty Smith (Scotty); twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and her brother, Jarvis "Nevin" Jackson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Ellis Hughes; her daughter, Carol Hughes Lands; grandson Andrew Wallace; sisters Charlotte Ashmore and Grace Redding; daughter-in-law Sandy Hughes; and granddaughter's husband Rev. Greg Drake.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2026 from the chapel of Almon Funeral Home at 3 pm with Rev. Shane Waldrep officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Almon Funeral Home from 2 pm until 3 pm.

Interment will be in Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Layton Drake, Aidan Smith, Caden Hughes, Caleb Hughes, Eric Cole, Asher Smith, Levi Hughes, Corbin Hughes, and Carter Wallace. Honorary pallbearers will be Kaylee Drake, Chloe Hughes, and Maddy Hughes.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Autumn Square and Tanner Hospice as well as caregivers Kathy Potts and Sandra Lightening for their compassionate care.
