Margaret Odett Mayfield
Prater
Feb 2, 1926 — Aug 25, 2024
Mrs. Margaret Odett Mayfield Prater of Waco Georgia passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Sunday, August 25, 2024. She was 98 years old. Margaret was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She worked many years along with her husband on a poultry farm. She later worked for Bremen-Bowdon Investment Co. in Bowdon and then spent many years at the Du-Gro meat packing plant in Carrollton. She then retired from work (back again with a textile company) at Hubbard's in Bremen. She loved her flowerbeds and her yards. She took care of nearly 4 acres of yard all by herself for the past 24 years. She enjoyed being outdoors and couldn't wait until the spring to where she could get back on her zero turn. When she wasn't outside she enjoyed watching her sermons every Sunday morning, her game shows during the week and college basketball anytime they were playing. She loved her family and had a great sense of humor.
Mrs. Prater was born in Cleburne County, Alabama on February 2, 1926 to the late Lonnie Mayfield and Nettie Willingham Mayfield.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Prater is preceded in death by her husband, of fifty four years, Lawrence ( L.F.) Prater; her son, Dennis Prater; her daughter-in-law, JuJuan Prater; her brother, J. O. Mayfield; and her sisters, Yvonne Clark, Betty Ivy, and Ozell Benefield.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Frank and Summer Prater of Winter Park, Fl., Patricia and Henry Mangum of Temple, Ga., Kathy and Eddie Gore of Waco, Ga, Darlene McDowell of Douglasville, Ga, and Sarah and Steve Lyle of Carrollton, Ga; one brother Jerry and Virginia Mayfield of Dallas, Ga; eleven grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and twelve great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and her constant companion, her dog, Pam!
