Mrs. Laura Jean Hudson Richards, age 96, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 8, 2026.
She was born on April 16, 1929, in Carroll County, Georgia, to the late Hulett Hudson and Annie Crawford Hudson. Laura was a proud graduate of Bowdon High School and devoted much of her working life as an administrative assistant at Carrollton Elementary School, where she was known for her kindness, dedication, and steady presence.
A faithful member of Carrollton First Methodist Church, Laura lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service to others.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Harold "Hal" and Katrina Richards; her beloved grandchildren, Abigail and Catie Richards; her nephews David Richards and Bobby (Suzanne) Hudson; her niece Sheila Richards, several great nieces and nephews and very special friends Ben and Pam Gordon along with many dear friends whom she truly loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Harold Franklin Richards; and her brother and sister-in-law, Robert Harold (Wylene) Hudson.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Chief Joel Richards and the Carrollton Police Department for their attentive service and visits over the last several years and to the staff of The Birches on Maple and Tanner Hospice for their compassion and excellent care in these last days.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 14, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon in the Gathering Room at Carrollton First Methodist Church. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 12:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of Carrollton First Methodist Church with Rev. Travis Sneed officiating.
A private inurnment for family and close friends will be held at Carroll Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Carrollton First Methodist Church, 206 Newnan St., Carrollton, GA 30117 or St Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Pl, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
