Mrs. Kay Hughie Moon, age 75, of Temple, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2025. She was born on April 16, 1950, in Villa Rica, Georgia, to the late Cula Thomas Hughie and Frances Tant Hughie.
Kay was actively involved with music. She played a variety of percussion instruments at Tabernacle Baptist Church including drums, cymbals, and handbells. In addition to playing music at the church, she would occasionally play in orchestras at Christmas time. Aside from the music ministry, Kay was involved in other areas of the church including the church financial committees for several years. She taught in the children's choir groups, the Open Hands ministry and even the Habitat for Humanity projects. She was also very active in sports including bowling, softball, hiking, and bicycling with the Peachtree Road Race being a yearly favorite for over 20 years. Kay spent many years actively involved in civic organizations with time spent with the Chamber of Commerce, Red Cross, Crime Stoppers, Salvation Army, community soup kitchen, Tanner Medical Center Auxiliary and other groups. Kay was also serving a term as Chairman for the Georgia Bankers Association Secret Committee. She also enjoyed her 8 consecutive years with Carrollton High School Band Booster Club. Kay retired from West Georgia National Bank after 39 years serving the community.
Kay is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years, Michael Moon; her daughters and son-in-law, Jennifer Bailey (Clayton) and Susan Wilkerson (Randy Mayes); and her beloved grandchildren, Faith Wilkerson Carnes (Cade), Laine Wilkerson, Patrick Bailey, and Kenzie Bailey. She is also survived by her sister, Ann Bell, and her nephew, David Bell.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, John Walter Smith III; and her brother-in-law, Ted Bell.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, from 5 PM to 8 PM. at Almon Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Tabernacle Baptist Church, with Dr. Stephen Allen and Rev. Mary Lou Grimmett, officiating.
Interment will follow in Carroll Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Tabernacle Baptist Church Music Ministry, 150 Tabernacle Dr., Carrollton, GA 30117.
