Joyce Crumley
Deese
Mar 29, 1931 — May 22, 2026
Joyce Crumley Deese passed away on May 22,,2026, surrounded by the love of her family and passed into the welcome arms of her Savior. Her entire life exemplified a Proverbs 31 woman. Her legacy to our family is of a beautiful God-fearing woman who brought wisdom, love and dedication into our home and our lives. We honor and praise her for the example she lived every day in our presence. She showed this same grace, peace and kindness in the last few years as she experienced declining health and graciously battled Alzheimer's.
Joyce was born on March 29, 1931 in Cook County, Georgia, the firstborn to Myrtle Fordham Crumley and Sylvester Crumley. The family moved to Ranburne,, AL when she was a young girl and where she lived the remainder of her life.
Joyce married Byron Deese on March 18, 1950 and they built a home together centered on their church home, Crumley's Chapel Church of God in Ranburne..The property for the church was donated by Joyce's great grandfather and both sides of their family worshipped there for many years. Joyce always found joy in serving in the church and welcomed many pastors and church family members into her home for meals and fellowship.
As a true Proverbs 31 woman, our mother never had idle hands. She was an exceptional homemaker, a very supportive wife, the most wonderful Mother, Grandmother and friend. She gardened, she was a proficient seamstress, and she was a helpful farm hand in many capacities as needed on their family farm. She was an excellent cook and the most amazing babysitter to her grandchildren. Her home was always a welcoming place and a delicious meal or sweet treat was always offered to anyone who entered. Her kindness and sweet disposition and her never ending energy made her a refuge for all her family. Two verses in Proverbs come to mind when thinking of her, Proverbs 31:28-29 "Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband, he praises her. Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all".
Joyce is survived by her children, Norman (Becky) Deese, Myron (Kimberly Watson) Deese, Sharon Tyroff, and Valerie (Scottie) Cofield; grandchildren Autumn (Brandon) Davis, Jennifer (Scott) Ballard, Corrie Deese, Amy Bryan, Dayla (David) Wittmeyer, Stephanie (Matt) Lee, Don Pollard, Allison (Blake) Morris and Drew (Kaley) Cofield; eleven great grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Martha Corbielle, Patricia Sue Crumley; brother-in-law, Kenneth Deese; sisters-in-law, Betty Deese, Molly Sue Crumley; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of seventy-five years, Byron Deese on January 8, 2026, her parents; brother, Stanley Crumley; and son-in-law, James Tyroff.
A funeral service to honor the life of Joyce Crumley Deese will be on Sunday, May 24, 2026 at 2PM EST at Crumley's Chapel Church of God in Ranburne, AL with Bro. Stacey Hendrix, officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 PM EST until the service hour.
