John Edward Wootan, 81 of Carrollton, Georgia passed away March 29,2024. He was born February 9, 1943, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was the son of John Nelson and Bessie Ruth Wootan.
John lived most of his life on the west side Indianapolis area. He graduated from Pike High School in 1961. After graduation, he began working and spent much of his career in the trucking industry, retiring from Old Dominion in 2017. He moved to Carrollton, GA in 2005 to be closer to work and travel and to escape the cold Indiana winters. He hated the snow! In his retirement, he enjoyed time in his workshop making furniture out of reclaimed wood, watching racing, and cheering on the Colts. He also enjoyed spending time with friends and family.
He is preceded in death by both parents, brother Bill Wootan; and sister Sue (Wootan) Faulkner Bell. He is survived by daughter, Diana (Phil) Velikan; grandchildren, Elise Velikan and Mitchell Velikan; sister, Maetta (Wootan) Egbert Craig; brother, Joe Wootan; sister, Charlotte (Wootan) Bray; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1 PM – 2 PM on Friday, April 12, 2024 at Almon Funeral Home with a memorial service following at 2 PM from the chapel of Almon Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tunnel2Towers, a nonprofit organization supporting first responders, veterans, and their families at www.t2t.org.
