Obituary

Mr. John Holder Trawick, Sr., age 81, of Carrollton, Georgia passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, September 2, 2024 after a lengthy illness with diabetes and Guillain-Barré syndrome.

Mr. Trawick was born on March 31, 1943, son of the late James Robert and Hazel Holder Trawick in Dothan, Alabama where his father was involved in making parachutes for the war effort. The family later moved to Carrollton and started Trawick's Upholstery. Johnny attended College Street School and graduated from Carrollton High School in 1961. At age 15, he started "going steady" with classmate Dondra Jean Marks. After attending West Georgia College for two years, he and Dondra married on September 8, 1963 and later moved to Statesboro where they both graduated from Georgia Southern College, with John earning a BBA in Management and Marketing. Upon graduating he accepted a job with JC Penny Company in Macon where he and Dondra had the opportunity to meet the company's 94 year old founder, Mr. James Cash Penny.

Realizing there was no better place to raise their family than Carrollton, the Trawicks returned home in 1972 and later opened Lakeside "The Plant Place", which they owned and operated until retirement. John was an active member of the Carrollton community, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees, Friends of Neva Lomason Library, active in church and school activities and served on the Carrollton Trojan Band board of directors for 8 years.

In his retirement, John loved spending time with his grandchildren and traveling with Dondra.

Mr. Trawick is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Dondra Marks Trawick; son and daughter-in-law, John Holder Trawick, Jr. (Jay) and Suzanne Mock Trawick of Carrollton; daughter, Dr. Mindi Trawick Cody of Braselton, Georgia; and daughter, Elizabeth (Beth)Trawick of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren, Sara Cody of New Haven, Connecticut, Jacob Cody of Atlanta,  Laney Cody of Jacksonville, Alabama, and James Garvie Trawick of Carrollton.
