John William Rooks was born in Hogansville, GA on December 25, 1949 to Thelma Darby Rooks and William Theo Rooks. He died peacefully on Friday, April 11, 2025 after a two and one-half year courageous battle with multiple health issues. Besides being predeceased by his parents, he was predeceased by sisters and brother-in- law Dorothy Beason, and Doris and Jerry Cheatwood. He was also predeceased by brother and sister-in-law William (Buddy) and Allison Rooks. He is survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law Jackie and Gary Amrhein and Jean and Mike Godfrey as well as sister-in-law Susan McCain. John is also survived by his wife of over 50 years, Ann McCain Rooks, three children, and five fantastic grandchildren: Susan and Joey Holland and their son Tyler; Rachel and Drew Veal and their sons Brady and Carson; and David and Kristen Rooks and their daughters Lauren and Catherine. He also had many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.

John spent all of his school years in, and was a proud graduate of, Carrollton City Schools. Most of his career was spent at Southwire and Raven Wire, and he owned two convenience stores, Rooks Grocery, in Carrollton and Roopville. He made many lifelong friends throughout his working life.

In his free time, John enjoyed sports, especially high school and college football and Braves baseball. He coached rec. baseball and practically lived at Sportsplex! He and Ann also enjoyed walking on The Greenbelt, especially at Hobbs Farm where they enjoyed each others' company, visiting with other "regulars," exercising, and appreciating nature.

John was a man of God who tried to always treat others the way he wanted to be treated. And although he had strong beliefs, he respected the opinions of others. He was an eager servant of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, taking many leadership roles for over forty-eight years. He loved God, his church, and his family. Oh, and his cats! He was crazy about his fur babies!

A visitation will be held on Monday, April 14 at 3pm at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church followed by a graveside service in the cemetery. Pallbearers will be his son David Rooks; sons- in law Drew Veal and Joey Holland; grandsons Tyler Holland, Brady Veal, and Carson Veal; and nephew Jonathan Rooks. The service will be led by Reverend Jake Webster.

The family is grateful for all of the wonderful care John received from Dr. Schuyler Cook and her staff and from Heaven Sent Helpers and their caregivers Gina and Abby.
