Obituary

Mrs. Nancy Joan Hudson Kirk, age 80, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024. She was born in Savannah, Georgia, on February 17, 1943, to the late Otis Carlton Hudson and Mary Elizabeth Stafford Hudson. Mrs. Kirk spent her early years in Chatsworth, Georgia, where her family moved when she was three years old. She graduated from Murray County High School in 1960 and went on to pursue her passion for education.

After high school, Mrs. Kirk enrolled at the University of Georgia, where she graduated in 1964 with a degree in early childhood education. She continued her academic journey at Mercer University, earning a master's degree and then earned a specialist in education degree from the University of West Georgia. Mrs. Kirk's teaching career took her to Augusta and Macon before she and her late husband, Wayne, settled in Carrollton. She dedicated many years to teaching at Alabama Street School and Carrollton Junior High, retiring in 1997. Even after retirement, her love for education led her to teach at Oak Mountain Academy and the Georgian Country Day School.

Mrs. Kirk lived a life marked by faith, love, and dedication to her family. She attended First Baptist Church and the Women of Faith Sunday School class. She was an avid and unwavering Georgia Bulldogs fan, attending both football and gymnastic meets. Retired teachers luncheons were a highlight for her, providing an opportunity to reconnect with her former Alabama Street School colleagues. Mrs. Kirk will be remembered for her warmth, dedication to education, and the lasting impact she had on the lives of those she touched.

Mrs. Kirk is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cayte Kirk Ellison (Scott); grandchildren, Glenn Reece Ellison and Kirk Ryan Ellison; nephew, Kenneth Hudson (Amy); and great nephew and niece, Logan and Norah. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Bivins Kirk, and brothers, David Hudson and Rickey Hudson.

The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church on Sunday, January 28, 2024, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. A Celebration of Life will follow the visitation at 3 p.m., with Dr. David Hughes and Rev. Jennifer Jindrich officiating.
