Jim
Wilkes
Nov 13, 1942 — May 10, 2026
James Bernard Wilkes "Jim" of Carrollton, Georgia born November 13, 1942 peacefully entered God's church triumphant on Sunday, May 10, 2026.
Jim was a lifelong member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he served on the
Counting Committee and where he sang for years in the Senior Choir. In addition, he was a decades-long member of Tabernacle's Linda Haney Sunday School class. Jim was also a regular at the Carrollton Senior Center where he enjoyed meals and cards and comradery with his friends. Until his retirement Jim enjoyed a career as a hair stylist and salon owner, and he had loyal clients, one of whom had her chauffer drive her fifty miles one way to have Jim style her hair each week. After retirement Jim volunteered as a hair stylist in nursing and retirement homes. Jim was a sensitive man who had a tender heart and a green thumb. And he could be an ornery man with a quick bark if you weren't talking loud enough for him to hear you. It was an ornery bark, though, that was often followed by a boyish grin that suggested he really didn't mean anything by it, and he hoped you could still be friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Novie Wilkes, and his brother, Vernon Wilkes. He is survived by his sister, Nancy Wilkes.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026 at 11 AM at Tabernacle Baptist Church Chapel. A reception will be held immediately following the service. Honorary pallbearers are the Linda Haney Sunday School Class and friends from the Carrollton Senior Center, Mack and Shirley McKinley.
Interment will be held in Carroll Memory Gardens following the service and reception at 1:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tabernacle Baptist Church Organ Fund or to the Carroll County Animal Shelter. Jim was passionate about both.
