Obituary

Mrs. Jeanette Davenport Jackson, age 90 of Carrollton, Georgia died Monday, May 06, 2013. Jeanette was the third child of the late Benjamin Keeler Davenport and Vada Lee Weldon Davenport. She was born January 30, 1923 at home in Douglasville, Georgia. She was working for Western Auto in Birmingham, Alabama at the downtown location, when she was transferred to another location in town. She met a man up on a ladder and the conversation ended up being the meeting of Frank M. Jackson, Sr. whom she later married. They stayed with Western Auto and in 1959 bought a franchise in Carrollton, Georgia. Jeanette became the bookkeeper for the business and later their only son, Frank M. Jackson, Jr. joined the family business. Frank, Sr. died in 1975 leaving Jeanette and Frank, Jr. to run the business until 1985. After her retirement she worked at the Purple Tree House Daycare. Jeanette was a member of the Carrollton First United Methodist Church, the Adult Friendship Class, church choir and past choir treasurer. Survivors include her son, Frank M. Jackson, Jr. of Carrollton; grandson, Frank M. Jackson, III of Carmel, Indiana; daughter-in-law, Claire A. Jackson of Douglasville; godson, Scott C. Kirby of Carrollton. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank M. Jackson, Sr., sister and brother-in-law, Inez and Joe Contri and brother, Billy L. Davenport. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Jeanette's caretakers the last years of her life, Tanya Elliott, Sondra Pitts and Elaine Sutton. A time of visitation with the family will be Friday, May 10th from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. in the gathering room of the Carrollton First United Methodist Church. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 11 a.m. with Dr. Dean Milford officiating. A short graveside service and interment will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery, 950 Mansell Road, Roswell, Georgia 30076 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Carrollton First United Methodist Church Children's Ministry, 206 Newnan Street, Carrollton, Georgia 30117.
