Mr. James Shields Upchurch, Sr., 85 of Carrollton, Georgia died Sunday, June 3, 2012. Mr. Upchurch was born in Opelika, Alabama on August 19, 1926, the son of the late J. Shields Upchurch and Evie Johnson Upchurch. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Grace DiDio and grandson, Joey DiDio. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Wilma Hamrick Upchurch; children, Marian (Steve) Aguillard of Jarreau, Louisiana, Martha (Frank Braswell) Upchurch of Macon, Mary Lou (Larry) Grimmett of Carrollton, Shields (Pam) Upchurch, Jr. of Milledgeville, Patrick (Dinah) Upchurch of Carrollton, Mike Sanders of Austell and Sharon Greer of Monroe; 18 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Mr. Upchurch worked in the automobile industry for 25 years. Then as a representative for Woodmen of the World Fraternal Insurance Society for 25 years. He was an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church; President of Woodmen of the World Lodge 100; member of the Masonic Lodge #69; KCCH of the Scottish Rite; member of Family Campers and RVers; volunteer at the Carroll County Soup Kitchen and numerous other volunteer organizations in the area. The family will receive friends and celebrate his life at Almon Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 8:30 p.m on Tuesday, June 5. A Celebration of Life service will be Wednesday, June 6 at 3p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Dr. Jimmy Gentry, Dr. Howard Cobble and Mr. Shields Upchurch officiating. Music will be provided by Carol Jackson and the Praise Singers. His body will be placed in the church for viewing from 2 p.m. until the funeral hour. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be the Seekers Co-Ed Sunday School Class and Deacons. Interment will be in the Carrollton City Cemetery.
