Obituary

Mr. James Virgil Houston age 85 of Carrollton, died Thursday, May 15, 2014 in Carrollton, Georgia. James was born December 17, 1928 in Cherokee County, Georgia to the late Jefferson V. Houston and the late Lena Mae Gunnin Houston. He was Baptist by faith and retired from Lawler Hosiery Mill as a Machinist after working for many years. James is a veteran and served in the United States Army for a number of years. Survivors include his wife of forty seven years, Dorothy Mae Guyton Houston, sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney and Rebecca Houston, Douglasville, Georgia; Randall V and Stacy Houston, Wetumpka, Alabama; daughter and son-in-law, Gina and Lloyd Lancaster, Alexander City, Alabama; son, David Houston, Carrollton, Georgia; brother and sister-in-law, Sam and Mary Lou Houston, Woodstock, Georgia; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Jay New, Woodstock, Georgia and Diane and Alan Honea, Woodstock, Georgia; five grandchildren, Roni Nixon, Huntsville, Alabama; J. J. Houston, Montgomery, Alabama; William Lancaster, Alexander City; Tucker and Wyatt Houston, Douglasville, Georgia and a host of nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Houston and sister, Frances Camp. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, May 18, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. from Almon Funeral Home in Carrollton, Georgia with Rev. Donald Williams and Rev. Ricky Bledsoe officiating. The American Legion Post 143 Honor Guard will fold and present the United States flag to the family. The family will receive friends Saturday evening, May 17, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Almon Funeral Home. According to his wishes the body will be cremated and the family respectfully request, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
