Obituary

Mr. James Van Chatman, age 61 of Carrollton, Georgia died Friday, January 17, 2014. Mr. Chatman was born in Carrollton, Georgia on July 12, 1952, the son of Doris Riddle Deese and the late Wallis M. Chatman. He worked in the construction industry and was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army. During his service he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Marksmanship Badges for Sharpshooter M-16 rifle and Expert (Rifle M-16A1). Mr. Chatman was a member of the former West Carrollton Baptist Church now North Point Baptist Church. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jamie and Eva Chatman of Carrollton; mother and step-father, Doris and Jay Deese of Carrollton; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Geron Crawford of Blue Ridge, Georgia; half sisters, Lanett (Ray) Crawford, Ranett Hendrix both of Carrollton; grandchildren, Joshua Chatman, Adrian Bentley, Pamela Chatman, and Riley Chatman. He was preceded in death by his father, Wallis M. Chatman. A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 23 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Old Camp United Methodist Church with Rev. Geron Crawford officiating. The family request in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association, 1101 Northchase Parkway, Suite 1, Marietta, GA 30067.
