Glenda Sue Payne Smith (77) was born September 15, 1946, in Telfair County, GA, and died from stroke complications December 23, 2023 in Carrollton, GA. She grew up in Telfair County and graduated from Telfair County High School.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, George and Willie Maude Williams Haymons of Lumber City and sister Judy Gore of Gray.

She is survived by her husband, Orie D. Smith of Carrollton, GA, two sons, Johnny (Sidra) McWhorter of Carrollton, GA, and Brian (Hayley), McWhorter of Rome, GA; granddaughters, Madison (Blake) Lewis, Savannah McWhorter and Abigail McWhorter; three grandsons, Connor McWhorter, Baxter McWhorter, Rowen Campbell, and one great grandson, Jack Lewis.

She is also survived by Orie's two sons, Steven and Michael Smith, their children and Orie's siblings, Top, Carlene and Junior and his extended family.

Surviving siblings include three brothers and two sisters; Lynn (Sharon) Payne, Oxford, GA., Randy Haymons, Newborn, GA., Diana (Waverly) Larkey, Douglas, GA., Beth (Bucky) Scarborough, Mansfield, GA., Greg (Ann) Haymons, Locust Grove, GA.

Sue was a homemaker during her son's early years in Tallapoosa, GA and worked at Stoffel Seals in Haralson County.

After their retirement, Sue and Orie lived in Jacksonville, GA for many years before moving to Carrollton in 2020.

Sue was a creative, generous and kind person. She loved growing flowers, was known for her pound cakes, restoring old furniture, hummingbirds, making angels and other crafts. Her favorite holiday was Christmas when she spent precious time with her beloved husband, sons and grandchildren. While living in Jacksonville, she made floral arrangements for each season to place on the graves of her loved ones. Coming from such a large family, this was no easy task.

Sue was determined to get better when she faced health issues. That determination and her devotion to her family are the two enduring qualities of her life.

A memorial service will be held at the family farm in Telfair County at a date to be determined.
