Mr. George S. Haddadin, age 89 of Carrollton, Georgia, formerly of Chicago, Illinois passed away Saturday, January 3, 2015. Mr. Haddadin was born in Maeen, Jordan on November 30, 1925, the son of the late Suleiman and Jamieleh Ibrahim Haddadin. In Jordan his name was "Lutfi. When he emigrated to the U.S. he took on his baptismal name, George. He lived in Maeen, Jordan, before arriving in the U.S. in 1978 looking for better opportunities. In the U.S., he established his own business in assembling custom jewelry and supplying it to retail custom jewelry stores in the Chicago area. While in Jordan, he lived in a small biblical town called Maeen, located southwest of Madaba, on the east side of the River Jordan. Maeen is well known throughout the Middle East for its hot springs, also called Hamamat Maeen, a volcanic spring near the Dead Sea. While in Maeen, he farmed the family land along with his brother, Tawfieg. At the age of seventeen, he joined the Frontier Force, a British medical regiment set up by the British government in Jordan during WWII, where they trained Jordanians as orderlies to help in treating the wounded during the war. He served five years as an orderly. During his service, he traveled throughout the Middle East. When the war ended, his regiment was retired in 1945, and he returned to Maeen where he worked our father's farmland. One of George's hobbies was reading books and magazines. His favorite books were those of Gibran Khalil Gibran, and his favorite magazine was the Arabic version of the Readers Digest. His medical experience led him to be the only one in town qualified to administer injections to patients in Maeen when they were prescribed by their doctors. He was practically a mobile clinic and the only clinic in town. His dream was to come to the U.S. and in 1978 he made it his home, working in Chicago, Illinois. It may comfort us to realize that George is now reunited with our sister Martha and her husband, Abu Samir and our parents. Survivors include: his brother, Tawfieg S. Haddadin and wife Lamya and their seven children, Ra'ed (Sawsan) Haddadin, Fuad (Christine) Haddadin, Khaled (Abeer) Haddadin, Nadia (Khaled) Haddadin, Nawal Haddadin, Khuloud (Alaa) Rayyan, and Eman Haddadin; brother, Elias S. Haddadin and wife, Diane and their four children, Jamie (Eric) Handler, Laith (Manka) Haddadin, Nadir Haddadin, and Jehan Haddadin; sister, Miriam S. Haddadin; sister the late Martha and the late husband Ne'meh (Abu Samir) Hanna, and their four children, Souhair (Edy) Chemaya, Roula (Khalil) Layoun, Samir (Christine) Hanna and Abir Hanna; sister, Jalileh S. Haddadin. The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Friday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the rosary at 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Carrollton, with Father Michael Silloway officiating. Pallbearers will be Elias Haddadin, Samir Hanna, Fuad Haddadin, Nadir Haddadin, Laith Haddadin and Eric Handler. Interment will be in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Carrollton, Capital Campaign.
