Obituary

Mrs. Eugenia Martin "Gene" Wood, age 90, of Atlanta, GA passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2021. Gene, a sixth generation Atlanta native, was born on September 24, 1930 the daughter of the late D.O. Martin and Frances Martin. Besides her parents Gene was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Charles D. Wood and her sister, Edith Smith. Gene grew up in Garden Hills and attended E. Rivers Elementary School and North Fulton High School. She later attended Stephens College and Georgia State University. With a long family history in real estate and construction in the Atlanta area, Gene enjoyed her time selling homes for Northside Realty and became a million-dollar agent. Gene was involved in many civic organizations including the Atlanta Speech School's Steeplechase committee, the Atlanta Botanical Gardens' Flower Show and was a founding member of the Atlanta Cottage Garden Club. She was also affiliated with the Atlanta Historical Society, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonial Dames. Gene loved the Lord. As longtime member of The Church of The Apostles, she delighted in leading the Communion Committee. Her favorite service every year was Christmas Eve. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Julee and David James; son, Bryan Wood; daughter and son-in-law, Joanie and John Weaver; grandchildren who lovingly called her "GranGene," Katie and Hunter Wood (wife, Mary Louise), Marty James (wife, Kianni) and Marshall James, Caroline Weaver Harbin (husband, Daniel,) Will, Hamp, Hunt, Anna, and Callie Weaver, and great grandchildren, Damian McClain and Greyson James. A graveside service and interment will be held at Oakland Cemetery, Atlanta, GA on Friday, February 12, 2021 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Church of The Apostles (apostles.org), Leading The Way (LTW.org) or The Stewart House (thestewarthouse.info).
