Mr. Fredrick "Fred" Eugene Hamlin, age 80, of Carrollton, Georgia passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2023.
Mr. Hamlin was born on April 3, 1942 in Macon, Georgia the son of the late Oscar Eugene Hamlin and Sadie Johnson Hamlin. He served in the US Navy as a radio operator aboard the USS Pyro and worked as a photo engraver for the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Artcraft Engraving and Mail and Media. He also was an over the road truck driver for several years where he traveled all across the United States and Canada. His most recent job was a bus driver for the Carroll County School System. Mr. Hamlin enjoyed gem cutting, backpacking, fishing, ballroom dancing and writing his book, Survival of the Unthinkable. He was a member of the Carrollton Moose Club, Carrollton VFW and Tabernacle Baptist Church. He was very passionate about his family and they were #1 in his life.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Wilson Hamlin; sons and daughters-in-law, Fredrick Andrew and Amy Hamlin of Newnan, Georgia, James and Martha Hamlin of Carrollton, Georgia; grandsons, Garrett Hamlin and Phillip Hamlin; granddaughter, Chloe Hamlin; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Bill Guard of Covington, Georgia and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Chelsea Lynn Hamlin.
Funeral service will be on Friday, January 20, 2023 at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Almon Funeral Home with Dr. Stephen Allen and Rev. Mary Lou Grimmett officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the service hour.
Interment will be in the Carrollton City Cemetery with the American Legion Post #143 providing military honors.
Pallbearers will be Steve Davis, Tom Jackson, Larry Grimmett, Bill Fuqua, Jerry Smith, Maury Leibowitz and Brandon Guard.
