Mr. Ernest "Ernie� Parish Shadinger, age 81 of Thurman Street, Carrollton passed away at his residence Saturday, September 19, 2009, after an extended illness.
Mr. Shadinger was born in Powderly, Alabama on February 22, 1928, the son of the late John Thomas Shadinger and Charlotte Craven Shadinger. He moved to Carrollton as an infant.
Ernie loved his community, his country, his family, and the Carrollton Trojans. He served his country proudly in the United States Air Force, and he served as a Carrollton City Councilman for four years. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Carrollton, the Carrollton Athletic Booster Club and the Carroll County Sportmans Club. He had served as president of both organizations for many years. In addition, he served on the Carrollton Recreation Commission.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Patricia Merritt Shadinger; sons and daughter-in-law, Stephen Shadinger of Carrollton, David and Anita Shadinger of Springhill, Louisiana; daughters and sons-in-law, Janet Johnson of Carrollton, Holly and Randy Jenkins of Whitesburg, Phyllis Shadinger of Carrollton, Marcia and Keith Morris of Carrollton; grandchildren, Mikki Shadinger, Jeffrey Jenkins, Amy Johnson Lambert and her husband Chad, Jonathan Jenkins, Zach Shadinger, Zeke Morris, Ethan Morris, Will Morris; great grandchild, Levi Lambert; brother, James T. Shadinger of Carrollton and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Shadinger.
Funeral service will be Monday, September 21 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Almon Funeral Home with Minister Dwayne Hicks and Minister Allen Howard officiating.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters and grandson-in-law.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Interment will be in the Carrollton City Cemetery with American Legion Post #143 folding and presenting the flag.
