Mr. Ellis Smith Veal, age 84, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 24, 2025. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Ellis was a pillar of strength, faith, wisdom, and compassion in the lives of all who knew him.

Born to Jessie Claude Veal and Mattie Jeanette Smith Veal, Ellis was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Mr. and Mrs. John Laincz, and his sister-in-law, Jane Frances Spake. He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Leah Ann Veal, who was his partner in life and love. Together, they raised two sons, Jon David Veal (Andrea) and Mark Steven Veal (Kelly), who carry forward his legacy of kindness and integrity. Ellis took great pride in his cherished grandchildren, Helen Yvonne and Greyson Ellis, who was named in his honor. His grandchildren brought immense pride and joy to his life. He is also survived by two brothers, Jerry Veal (JoAnne) and Mike Veal (Patricia) of Temple, Georgia, one sister, Dianne Eason, and several nieces and nephews.

A man of deep faith and conviction, Ellis was a longtime member and Sunday School teacher at First Christian Church in Carrollton and served faithfully as an elder and Sunday School teacher at First Christian Church in Bremen and Bethany Christian Church in Carrollton. He also served on the Java missionary board for over 10 years. His commitment to his faith and service to others served as a guiding force throughout his life, positively influencing countless individuals and strengthening his community. Ellis served in the Army National Guard and worked with Hubbard's for over 40 years.

Ellis had a profound love for his country, exemplified by his deep respect for God, the American flag, and the values they represent. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the Georgia Bulldogs, Michigan Wolverines, Atlanta Braves, and LaGrange Grangers. Ellis proudly cheered for his teams with unwavering enthusiasm, but he especially loved watching and cheering his son, Mark Veal, as he served as the head coach for the Granger basketball team each year.

Known for his warm smile, gentle spirit, and unwavering support for his family and friends, Ellis will be remembered for his wise counsel, faith, generosity, strong work ethic and the love he shared with everyone around him.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all who offered support and prayers during this time. A celebration of his life will be held at First Christian Church of Carrollton, with the following pallbearers: Tim Eason, Randall Spake, Jerry Stanford, David Nist, JW Cantrell, and Brian Veal. The honorary pallbearers include his brother Jerry Veal, his sons Jon David Veal and Mark Veal, along with his beloved grandchildren, Greyson Ellis Veal and Helen Yvonne Veal, and one granddog, Maizy.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 26th from 12-2 PM at First Christian Church of Carrollton, with the service to follow at 2 PM. The service will be officiated by Pastor Randy Barnhart and Ron Shepard of First Christian Church of Carrollton.

Ellis Smith Veal will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace, embraced by the love of God and the cherished memories he created throughout his life. We will ensure your light and legacy continue for generations.
