Mrs. Elizabeth Montine Joyner, age 78, of Morganton, Georgia passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2025.

She was born in Unadilla, Georgia on September 24, 1946, the daughter of the late John Barton Hancock and Maggie Elizabeth Stokes Hancock.

Montine Elizabeth Joyner, lovingly known as "Sadie Jane" by her husband Danny, was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She and Danny raised their three children in the country, creating a home filled with love, laughter, and the unwavering care of a nurturing mother. Montine was a woman of many talents, known in her community for her beautiful wedding cakes, which she made with great artistry. Her passion for creating extended to her quilting, and she made countless beautiful quilts over the years, each one stitched with love for her family.

Montine's love for family and tradition was evident in the time spent together. She enjoyed gathering with her sisters for sing-alongs, sharing laughter, and memories that lasted through the years. As a woman with a deep faith, Montine grew up in a Primitive Baptist household, where her father was a preacher. She continued her faith journey later in life by joining the Fellowship Primitive Baptist Church, where she found fellowship and strength in her community.

Montine was an avid gardener and canner, spending many hours with Danny in their garden, growing produce that would later become their signature "Joyner Blackberry Jam" and other canned goods. Their home was always filled with the aromas of fresh-baked biscuits and homemade meals, especially those that Montine made with care for her family, including the much-loved grape jelly and savory dishes like eggs and bacon.

Montine's love for the outdoors was cherished as well. She and her family created lasting memories camping in the Smokies, floating on the river, and catching lightning bugs or crawdaddies. Her gentle spirit and sense of adventure were reflected in these moments, and she passed down a legacy of love for nature and simple pleasures.

Montine also enjoyed some well-deserved moments of relaxation, often spending time rocking on the front porch with family pets, or traveling to Elkmont Campground, where she could unwind. Despite her health struggles later in life, she remained a strong woman, always faithful and loving to the very end.

Her legacy lives on in the many quilts she made for her children, grandchildren, and loved ones, each one a testament to her love and devotion. Montine will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her. We take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace with the Lord and reunited with her beloved husband, watching over us all.

She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Erica McCoy, Paige (Justin) Martin; son, Jonathan Daniel Joyner; grandchildren, Josh Salazar, Austin (Jordan) Salazar, Alex (Cheyenne) Salazar, Andrew Salazar, Arial Joyner (Alex Jump – fiancé), Livy Martin, Thomas Martin, Lorelei Maggie Lambert, Dade Jonathan Joyner, Ella Joyner; great grandchild, Jaxson Salazar; sisters, Betty Brooks, Mamie Christianson, Rose Dufour, Billie Ruth Mears; brother, James Hancock; her beloved dog, Wennie "Bean" Joyner along with several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Daniel Joyner and her brother, Johnny Hancock.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 6, 2025 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Almon Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at 1 PM at Tallapoosa Primitive Baptist Church with Bro David Smith officiating.

Interment will follow in Tallapoosa Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Alex Salazar, Alex Jump, Austin Salazar, Dave Joyner, Andrew Salazar and Justin Martin serving as pallbearers.
