Obituary

Eleanor Heins Browder, beloved wife of William S. (Bill) Browder, Sr. passed from this life on Monday morning, January 25, 2016. Eleanor was born in Charleston, SC to Edward Julius Heins, Sr. and Grace Eleanor Heins on May 4, 1933. She married her high school sweetheart, Bill Browder, on January 13, 1952 in Charleston. Eleanor and Bill spent the early years of their marriage in Charlotte, NC and Charleston, SC. During those years the Browders had three children, Debra Ann, Bill Jr. and Scott. Through Bills work they transferred to New Orleans, LA where the family lived for 5 years before resettling in the North Atlanta area for the next 30 years. When Bill retired in 1993, the couple moved to Carrollton, GA. In addition to her parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by her youngest son, Robert Scott Browder, a brother, E.J. Heins, Jr., and an infant granddaughter, Lindsey Kaye Williams. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, William S. Browder, Sr., a daughter, Debra Browder Williams (Donny) of Carrollton, a son, William S. Browder, Jr. (Jane) of Gainesville, and three grandchildren, Meredith Williams Ivey (Edwin), William S. Browder, III, and Dr. Darin S. Williams. Surviving siblings include Betty Heins Pardue and Donald Louis Heins. Other surviving family members include Jason Jordan (Susana) and two sons, Brent Jordan (Christy) and daughter, and Edwin Tate Ivey, II. Eleanor was first and foremost a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. After her children started school, she worked as an assistant teacher at Dunwoody Methodist Church Kindergarten in addition to volunteering as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader for her childrens troops. Eleanor had a heart for service. She received joy in doing nice things for others. She volunteered for an Alzheimers support group at Dunwoody Methodist Church for several years, visited with shut-ins for Carrollton First United Methodist Church, and created toiletry/necessity bags to give to West Georgia International students, homeless shelters and a local group home. She always tried to take each one a little something when she visited, even though her ready smile was often gift enough. A long time active member of Dunwoody Arts and Crafts Guild, Eleanor was very creative. She enjoyed oil and acrylic painting, shell-wreath design and construction, creating personalized shadow boxes, and several other art forms. Other hobbies included ALTA tennis, bowling, line dancing, swimming, sewing, cooking, camping, shelling, and gardening. She loved Christmas trees, and often put up a dozen trees with various themes and many handmade ornaments. Her favorite pastime though was entertaining, and she was always ready to play hostess for any gathering of friends or family. Eleanor had a bit of an adventuresome spirit and was open to new experiences, especially if it involved her family. She drove a dirt bike, jumped on the trampoline, rode a zip-line through the woods, camped, ice skated, and roller skated with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed membership and leadership in various community groups including the Oxford Square Garden Club, the Carrollton Civic Womens Club, the Spade and Trowel Garden Club, the Dazzlers Red Hat Society, and a local line dance group. Eleanor and Bill had the opportunity to travel extensively, visiting: Alaska, Austria, Canada, England, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Morocco, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, Vancouver, the Greek islands, Bermuda and many of the islands of the Caribbean. Eleanor was a member of Carrollton First United Methodist Church and the Agape Sunday School Class. A breast cancer survivor for 30 years, Eleanor lost her final battle to Alzheimer's disease.
