Mrs. Dura Ann Phillips Thornton, age 67, of Kristy Lane, Carrollton died Monday, June 14, 2010. Mrs. Thornton was born in Douglas County on September 8, 1942, the daughter of the late George Washington Phillips and Effie Mae Bishop Phillips. She had worked as a retail salesperson at Super D and was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy. Survivors include her husband, Dalton E. Thornton, daughter, Sondra Thornton Smith of Carrollton, grandchildren, Andy Smith, Ginger Smith Longmire and her husband, Josh Longmire, great grandchild, Marilyn Rees Longmire, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jan and Frankie Turner, sister, Mary Carlyn Pope, brothers and sisters-in-law, Damon and Jean Phillips and Howard and Chris Phillips. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzette Arlene Thornton, sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Nathan Fountain, Ruth and Duard Spruill, and Remona and Cliff Strickland. Funeral service will be Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at 2 pm from the chapel of Almon Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Fordham and Rev. Jimmy Fountain officiating. Pallbearers will be Andy Smith, Tommy Smith, Frankie Turner, Josh Longmire, Rick Phillips, and Stanley Phillips. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 5 to 8 pm.
