Dr. William J. Pottorf Dr. William J. Pottorf, 63, passed away on Monday, January 11th, 2010. Dr. Pottorf was born in Takoma Park, Maryland on March 2nd, 1946, the son of the late John Elmer Francis Pottorf and Grace Ruby Chapman Pottorf. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict from 1966 to 1968, was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, and practiced as a family dentist in Carrollton for over 25 years. A native of Sacramento, California, Dr. Pottorf received a Bachelors of Arts in Humanities in 1971, Teaching Credential K-9 in 1973, and a Master of Arts in Humanities in 1978 from California State University, Sacramento. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry in 1984. While completing his undergraduate studies, Dr. Pottorf supported his family by working for a cement contracting company. Dr. Pottorf has served as President of the West Georgia Dental Study Club, Chairman of the Dental Health Committee for the Northwestern District Dental Society, and the Advisory Board of the National Association of Seventh Day Adventist Dentists. He was also a member of the American Dental Association, the Georgia Dental Association, the Peachtree Summit Dental Study Club, and an alumnus of the L.D. Pankey Institute of Advanced Dental Education. Dr. Pottorf was on the Advisory Board for the Hygiene School at West Central Technical College, a Board Member of the Carroll County Sheriff Citizen Committee, and a member of the Carrollton Kiwanis Club. He also enjoyed playing competition racquetball, recreational "pontoon" boating, and traveling with family and friends. Dr. Pottorf is survived by his wife of 40 years to Peggy Darleen Swan Pottorf; two sons and daughter-in-laws, Dr. William James, II and Silvia of Cincinnati, OH; Dr. Shawn Paul Swan and Dr. Alex of Selden, NY; granddaughter Luiza (William and Silvia), and sisters, Catherine Wright of Mt. Aukum, CA, and Patricia Clark of Sacramento, CA. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by an infant brother John. Funeral services will be Saturday, Jan 16th at 2 o'clock at Midway (Macedonia) Baptist Church with Dr. Tom Peterson, Dr. Fred Richards, and Dr. David Drew officiating. Pallbearers will be Dr. William J. Pottorf II, Dr. Shawn Paul Swan Pottorf, Neal Bronsert, Dr. Michael Bronsert, Dale Petersen, and Brandon Peterson. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Daniels, Dr. David Drew, Dr. H. Jeffrey Lindsey, the West Georgia Dental Study Club and Carrollton Kiwanis Club. Interment will be at Carroll Memory Gardens after the service. The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Friday, Jan 15th from 5 P. M. until 8 P. M.
