On Saturday, December 18, 2020, Dr. Larry E. Ashmore passed away at the age of 68 after a 12 year battle with cancer. Larry was preceded in death by his father, Edward, and his mother, Loreta. He is survived by his beautiful wife Jan; three daughters and their spouses, Noelle (Doug) Brucki, Heather (Dusty) Engleman, and Karlea (Jason) McCoy; and three grandchildren, Peyton, Ashlea, and Boaz. Larry was born on March 10, 1952, in Atlanta, Georgia. He met and married Jan in 1988. Together, they raised their three daughters in Tucker, Georgia. He was affectionately known as Pops by the entire family. He would spend his nights and weekends attending ballet recitals, softball, and football (cheerleading) games, as well as the occasional camping, hiking, hunting, and fishing trips. He was also known to fire up the Big Green Egg on the weekends to cook for his family. Larry's greatest passion was for motorcycles. He developed a deep love for them at an early age. He loved tinkering with his motorcycles and taking endless rides through the country roads with his friends and family. Larry spent much of his working career at SunTrust Bank as an internal auditor. While at SunTrust, Larry attended Nova Southeastern University, where he received a Doctor of Business Administration. As an accomplished business leader, Larry followed his dream to become a professor and taught for the Masters of Accounting program at Georgia State University. During his career at Georgia State, Larry had the opportunity to lead a group of students to the Annual Georgia Internal Audit Case Competition, where his team went on to win the event. After retirement, Larry enjoyed spending time with his wife. Together they attended Georgia State University football and basketball games, getaways to Tryon, NC with their dogs, and time relaxing at their lake house. Larry had a kind heart and a love for serving others. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church, attending Carrollton First UMC. He served as Stephen Minister and graciously led Sunday School classes. He also felt led to share the love of Jesus with the local college students through the University of West Georgia Wesley Foundation and served as their Chairman of the Board. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at Eastview Cemetery, Conyers, Georgia, at one o'clock in the afternoon.
